Germanischer Lloyd absorbs UK's Noble Denton in European union

Changes abound at Hamburg, Germany-based Germanischer Lloyd. Just last week the company merged with London-based Noble Denton to form a fully-integrated technical assurance and consulting company to serve the worldwide energy industries. Not too long before that, the company appointed a new managing director for the UK.

At a Houston press conference last week, executives from both companies promoted the merger as a major step forward and emphasized the timing as perfect for holistic service offerings. More...

Since the discovery of potentially massive oil reserves in the "pre-salt" region off the coast of Brazil, the Brazilian government has been grappling with how to structure and regulate exploration, drilling, and the potential for a large influx of foreign investment.

In this Q&A, Luiz Antonio Maia EspĂ­nola de Lemos sheds light on the issues surrounding the pre-salt discoveries, and discusses challenges facing the Brazilian government in managing these resources.

Apache makes changes in regional leadership

Apache Corp. has made several changes in the company's regional and corporate leadership teams.

Tom Voytovich will become region vice president and general manager, Apache Egypt Cos. He has been region vice president - central region since March 2006.

John Bedingfield will become region vice president - Australia and managing director, Apache Energy Ltd. in Perth. He has been deputy managing director and exploration manager in Perth since August 2005.

Jon Graham will move to Buenos Aires to become region vice president - Argentina. He has been vice president - reservoir engineering in Canada since 2006.

Tim Wall will become region vice president and president of Apache Canada. He has been region vice president - Australia and managing director, Apache Energy Ltd. since March 2006.

Poyry promotes Fogg to oversee European oil, gas services

Engineering and consultancy firm Poyry has promoted Steve Fogg to president oil and gas Europe.

Fogg remains managing director of the company's Aberdeen office. Poyry's offices in the UK, Norway and Spain will report to him.

Steve joined Poyry, then IGL Oil and Gas Consultants Ltd., in 1996, and became operations director in 2003 before being promoted to managing director in 2007, following the company's acquisition by Poyry. More...

Standard Chartered, IFC enter 1.25B funding partnership to boost global trade

Standard Chartered has agreed with the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, to develop a $1.25 billion funding partnership to facilitate global trade finance. The agreement is the first to emerge from the Global Trade Liquidity Program (GTLP), a trade finance initiative announced last week by World Bank president Robert B. Zoellick.

Excelerate Energy extends agreements for LNG delivery to South America's first-ever LNG import facility

The Woodlands, Texas, USA-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer and marketer Excelerate Energy LLC executed all agreements with YPF SA to provide another two years of LNG regasification services to YPF's importation facility at the port city of Bahí­a Blanca, roughly 400 miles south of Buenos Aires.

Constructed in June 2008, the Bahí­a Blanca GasPort LNG facility is South America's first-ever LNG receiving facility and the world's second dockside regasification facility. More...
