Oil and gas prices were not as affected Aug. 29 as would normally be expected on the anticipation of a storm the size and speed of Gustav, which made landfall Sept. 1 as a Category 2 hurricane.

US rig count tops 2,000 first time in 23 years
There were 2,031 rotary rigs working in the US the week ended Aug. 29, up 33 from the previous week and the first time the count has topped 2,000 since Mar. 8, 1985, when 2,011 units were drilling, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

BP PLC, which earlier this week resumed shipments through the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, said it has no start date yet for reopening the 155,000-b/d capacity Baku-Supsa pipeline, also known as the Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP).
